Compress PDF

Reduce PDF size locally with quality presets, identical-image sharing, a best-effort size target, and optional grayscale. Choose image optimization, lossless repacking, or an explicit image-only rebuild and compare the result before downloading.

Compression settings
Reuse repeated image data without changing its pixels. Images with different settings or unsupported metadata stay separate.

Keeps text and vector content. Re-encodes eligible RGB JPEG images only when smaller. PNGs, masks, managed print colors, and complex image encodings stay unchanged.

Three small steps.

  1. Choose one PDF, up to 50 MB.
  2. Choose a preset, optional size target, and grayscale if needed. Select image-only rebuilding only when its tradeoffs suit your document.
  3. Compress, compare file sizes and rendered pages, then download your result.

A few things to know.

Preserving modes support up to 300 pages; image-only mode supports up to 50 pages and bounded rendering. Balanced mode optimizes eligible 8-bit RGB JPEG images; other encodings and managed print colors remain unchanged. Targets range from 1 to 50,000 KB (decimal units). Grayscale in Balanced mode changes only optimized JPEGs; other content keeps its colors. If no candidate is smaller, or the original already meets the target, original bytes are returned. Signed, encrypted, and damaged PDFs are unsupported. Always review the output before replacing your original.

A little more clarity.

Will my text remain selectable?

Balanced and Preserve quality modes keep the document’s text and vector content. Image-only mode renders each page into a JPEG and removes selectable text, interactive features, and accessibility tags; it requires your explicit choice.

Can repeated images be compressed without lowering quality?

Yes, when their encoded data and supported settings match exactly. Share identical embedded images lets Preserve quality and Balanced modes reuse repeated images and compatible masks. Sharing itself does not decode or re-encode pixels; Balanced may separately optimize eligible JPEGs. Images with different settings, identity-related metadata, or unsupported reference uses remain separate. You can turn sharing off.

Why did my PDF not get smaller?

A PDF may already be efficiently compressed or contain images this tool leaves unchanged. If the candidate is the same size or larger, the tool returns the exact original bytes and labels them clearly.

Can I compress a PDF to exactly 100 KB or 1 MB?

Enable the file-size target and enter 100 KB or 1,000 KB for 1 MB. Balanced mode first tries quality-preserving repacking, then up to six JPEG quality levels from your chosen value down to 20%. Image-only mode tries the same quality levels only after your explicit confirmation. Dimensions and resolution stay at your chosen settings. The result reports the actual bytes and whether the target was met; an exact size or successful reduction is not guaranteed.

Does my PDF leave this device?

No. PDF parsing, image processing, rendering, and downloads run locally. The PDF renderer’s code, fonts, and codecs load from this site; your document is not uploaded.
