SHA hash generator

Generate SHA-256, SHA-384, or SHA-512 digests of UTF-8 text using your browser. Spaces and line breaks are preserved in the input.

Undo: Ctrl/Cmd+Z · Redo: Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y. Up to 20 steps and 4 million retained characters in this tab. Clear discards history.

Hashes use the exact UTF-8 input, including spaces and line breaks. A hash is one-way; it is not encryption or a password-storage format.

Three small steps.

  1. Paste text, load a local text file, or leave the input empty.
  2. Select SHA-256, SHA-384, or SHA-512 and generate the hash.
  3. Copy or download the lowercase hexadecimal digest.

A few things to know.

Up to 1 million text characters. Requires HTTPS or localhost and Web Crypto support. Input is hashed as UTF-8 without trimming or Unicode normalization. This is a text hash, not a binary-file checksum, password-storage algorithm, or encryption tool.

A little more clarity.

Can a hash be decrypted?

No. Hashing is one-way. You can hash an original message again to compare digests, but this tool cannot recover text from a digest.

Why did the hash change?

Even a trailing space, newline, or different Unicode normalization changes the bytes and can produce a different digest. The tool hashes the exact text in the editor.
