Reverse DNS lookup
Query PTR records for a public IPv4 or IPv6 address using Cloudflare or Google Public DNS. See the reverse query name, DNS status, returned hostnames and their TTL values.
Also known asPTR lookup · reverse IP lookup
Three small steps.
- Enter a public IPv4 or IPv6 address.
- Choose Cloudflare or Google Public DNS and start the lookup.
- Read the PTR records and status; an address can have no reverse-DNS record.
A few things to know.
One address per query, with an eight-second provider timeout and bounded replies. Reverse DNS queries are made from the ToolMellow server, not your local DNS resolver. Private and special-use addresses are not queried. A PTR hostname is set by the address's DNS operator; it is not proof of ownership, forward-DNS agreement or the identity of a visitor. Geolocation and network scanning are not included.

Why are there no PTR records?
The address's DNS operator may not have published one. NXDOMAIN or NODATA differs from a timeout or provider failure; check the displayed DNS status.
Does a PTR name prove a domain points to this IP?
No. Reverse DNS and forward DNS are separate records. Use DNS Checker to inspect A or AAAA records for the returned hostname.
