URL encoder & decoder

Encode a URL component, form value, or whole URL and decode escaped UTF-8 text. Choose how spaces and separators are handled without sending a request.

Undo: Ctrl/Cmd+Z · Redo: Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y. Up to 20 steps and 4 million retained characters in this tab. Clear discards history.

Three small steps.

  1. Paste a query value, path segment, or encoded text.
  2. Choose URL component, form value, or whole URL encoding, then Encode or Decode.
  3. Copy or download the result for use in your application.

A few things to know.

Up to 1 million input characters. Component mode escapes reserved punctuation; form mode follows URLSearchParams rules. Whole URL mode uses encodeURI/decodeURI to preserve separators, including reserved percent escapes when decoding. Decoding rejects malformed percent escapes and invalid UTF-8. No URL is opened or fetched.

A little more clarity.

When does + mean a space?

Only in form value mode. In URL component mode, a literal + stays + on decoding; an encoded space is %20.

Should I paste an entire URL?

Select Whole URL to preserve separators such as : and /. Use component or form value mode for individual parameters. This is an encoder, not a URL validator; it never opens the address.
